THANKSGIVING WITH GRACELAND 2014

On Wednesday we were visited by four ladies from the USA and Canada. They are teachers from the School of English Graceland. They prepared worshops on Thanksgiving for us at which we sang songs, participated in a quiz about Thanksgiving and turkeys and did some craftswork. Finally there was a treat of hand-made pumpkin cookies and some Canadian cranberries. Having a chance to meet and talk to native speakers was a very interesting and challenging experience for us! We hope to meet the four ladies again soon!

A wonderful project by four girls from III E

Two weeks ago we discussed The Red Nose Day during our lessons with III E and as a homework the students were supposed to think of an idea of how to raise money during The Red Nose Day.
They had a number of fantastic ideas but the one that we all enjoyed most was "The Red Nose Quiz" prepared by the four girls whose names appear on one of the last slides.

Hi! Look what a wonderful Jack-o-Lantern Ola from I C has made!!!

Tuesday, 28 October 2014

Hi,
As Halloween is coming, I planned for this week practical exercises in making Jack-O-Lanterns. Unfortunately I got sick and we are unable to do it together, so I've decided to put the instructions of how to do it here followed witha little film about it. I hope you will try to use the instructions on your own and bring some photographs of your Jack-O-Lanterns to class.
See you next week.:)

You need:
1 short, sharp knife
1 dessert spoon
1 teaspoon
1 candle or tea-light
Plenty of newspaper to protect work surface
Large bowl for pumpkin seeds and flesh

Step One:
Cut a circular hole around the stalk.

Tilt the point of the knife into the centre of the pumpkin.
This will stop the lid from falling in.

Step Two: Scoop out the seeds and any loose flesh using the dessertspoon and the knife if needed.

Step Three: Sketch the face onto your pumpkin. Use a biro so any mistakes can be scrubbed off with a scouring pad or fingernail.

Step Four: Carefully cut out the features. Take small cuts and use a puncturing motion rather than a slicing one.

Step Five:Gently scrape away the flesh on the inside of the face until it is only 1cm thick.

Step Six: Using the knife, mark a circle the size of your candle or tea-light in the centre of the base.

Step Seven: Carefully hollow out the marked area with the teaspoon.

Step Eight: Place your candle in the hollow, light it and replace the lid of your jack-o'-lantern.

Hello again,
I haven't written for ages, but it wasn't because I didn't want to, but because I had some technical problems. And in the meantime so many interesting things have happened!!!
First of all, students were away for their school trips, and I got some lovely memories from their trips from them:

School Trip
Our class IG were on the school trip. (19-23 May 2014)
We had beautiful weather. It was sunny all the time. We went to Koninki. We were in “Gorce” mountains. On Tuesday we went on “Turbaczyk” and on Wednesday on “Turbacz”.
In the camp we lived in four-rooms and we had neighbours there. They were fifth-graders. Girls liked to talk with them, but we didn’t. When we saw that they put butter on rail of our balcony, we wanted to show fifth-graders who is the master. We scared them. And we had calm.
In the free time we played football, but when it was dark outside, we played “Heroes of Might and Magic III” on Michal Jurek’s computer.
At the first day we had a karaoke party. Last evening we had a competition. We had to prepare song, dance, advertisement and fashion show. Fell the most in my memory advertisement of “Old Spice” and of socks. We had an advertisement of brick, shampoo, and spray too. After that, we had a disco. But the DJ was terrible. Last night my friends made a “green night” with pyjamas and toothpaste,
but I was sleeping so I didn’t enjoy the “green night” at all.
We came back on 23 May 2014 at 5:30 pm.

That was Jacek from IG, and this following one was from Kuba from the same class.

My students from IIIF  had a lesson about New Zealand and as a homework, they were supposed to produce collages about the countries they would like to visit. Here is Julka's work:
